Instrumental music

​​​Centenary SHS offers a comprehensive Instrumental Music Program, encompassing group tuition and ensemble rehearsals.  Students have the opportunity to participate in the school’s award winning ensembles and are provided with expert tuition from specialist teachers. Instruments that can be studied in the program include: 

  • Woodwind: flute, oboe, clarinet, bass clarinet, saxophone (alto, tenor, baritone)
  • Brass: French horn, trumpet, euphonium/baritone, trombone, tuba
  • Percussion: tuned and untuned percussion
  • Strings: violin, viola, cello, double bass

Centenary SHS also employs a voice and guitar teacher, and students can sign up for vocal lessons (individual or group) or guitar lessons (individual or group).  These teachers are experts in their fields, and operate on a user-pay basis (separate invoicing to the school).

Ensembles at Centenary SHS include:

  • Junior: String Ensemble and Concert Band
  • Senior: String Orchestra and Symphonic Band
  • Whole School: Stage Band, Percussion Ensemble, Choir, Jazz Choir, Vocal Ensemble

High achieving students also have the opportunity to participate in extension programs such as the Australian Honours Ensemble and State Honours Ensemble Programs at the Queensland Conservatorium of Music, Creative Generation, as well as the biennial Creative Generation Excellence Awards in Instrumental Music (MOST).
