Student leadership

Centenary State High School 2017 School Captains and Vice-Captains

At Centenary State High School, we believe that developing student leaders and establishing positive models of student governance, is of absolute importance. Our innovative and diverse leadership model provides opportunities for a variety of students to undertake leadership roles within the school.

We have implemented a system of student governance, providing students with a sense of empowerment, ownership and responsibility in school matters.  Providing a variety of leadership avenues and skill development, all students have the opportunity to develop their leadership potential.

Our leadership model consists of two School Captains, two Vice Captains, and a School Leadership Forum, made up of 24 School Leaders, four from each year level.  The elected school leaders from each year level are involved in various committees, designed to tackle the many hands-on projects that emerge throughout the year. Other interested students from the student body may also join.

In 2008, we introduced the Year 12 Council, formed to encourage a Year 12 decision-making body.  It is designed to provide a direct link between senior students, the Year Level Coordinator and the Principal of the school.  It offers students a forum to converse directly about issues affecting senior students and initiatives to benefit the student body.  Years 11 and 12 students may also nominate to mentor new Year 7 students through their first few months of secondary school.

In addition to these leadership roles, we also operate a House System.  Eight elected House captains help to organise and run activities such as sport and swimming carnivals and other inter-house activities with the House coordinators.
