Visual Art Excursion to Southbank

Visual Art Excursion to Southbank

On Tuesday the 19th of July, the Year 10 Art students went on an excursion to GOMA to explore the Cindy Sherman exhibition. Sherman uses expression and cosmetic changes to illustrate how different roles of women are portrayed in society. We spent the first half of the day exploring her exhibition in which we observed the emotions and meaning of her pieces, even attempting to draw our favourite artwork.

Our classes also got to see artist Ah Xian’s busts which highlight his cultural heritage with detailed carvings and meaningful colours.

We also went to the Queensland Art Gallery and walked through Sally Gabori’s exhibition which displayed huge contemporary paintings that reflected upon her Indigenous heritage.  The excursion to both galleries was a fun and inspiring experience that definitely showed the Year 10s that anything is possible as an artist.
