Lions Youth of the Year 2019

Centenary SHS Captains and Vice Captains
On February 19th, our two School Captains, David and Miranda, and Vice Captain Chloe, participated in the Jindalee Lions Club Youth of the Year Quest final, competing against each other and students from a private school in our district.
David won the Jindalee branch Youth of the Year, and now moves on – not to Zone final, but to Regional final this weekend.
The Lions Youth of the Year Quest is judged in two stages: firstly, entrants in the quest are required to attend a private interview with the panel of judges, during which they are judged on their leadership, sporting and/or cultural activities, citizenship and community involvement, academic record, general knowledge and personality.
On the finals evening, students in the quest deliver to the audience a prepared speech of five minutes duration, and two short impromptu speeches.  With an impromptu, they are given no time to prepare, and must make their responses on the spot. The questions I started with were the ones they had to respond to this year.
Our students did a fantastic job, responding to these questions with maturity, intelligence and humour.  Their prepared speeches were inspirational and entertaining: about re-thinking the judicial system, and resilience.
