Film, Television and New Media Excursion to GOMA and JMC Academy

At the Marvel Exhibition - GOMA
On Wednesday May 31, the Years 11 and 12 Film, Television and New Media students went on an excursion to Southbank to visit the JMC Academy and the GOMA Marvel Exhibition.

At JMC students participated in a multi-cam studio production of a television show. Students brainstormed ideas for a hosted television show and then split into production roles to create the show. Students worked as producers, directors, editors and vision switchers, camera crew and floor managers to film a live-to-air broadcast. This was a great experience and there were many moments of laughter as TV show hosts improvised segment fillers on the spot and close up shots went awry!

We also visited the Marvel Exhibition at GOMA where there were many an eye moist with joy at the sight of the Asgard Throne room, Captain America’s costumes and Hulkbuster. At the exhibition students learnt about the pre-production design phase of the films: storyboarding, set and costume design, sketching and creating their own superheroes. As well as the postproduction phase: motion capture, animation and sound editing.

A great day was had by all with many students boarding the bus home clutching souvenir bags from the Marvel Exhibition shop!
